One of the biggest bands in history will be honoured this Friday at Zagreb’s Rock n’ Roll themed park…
A statue of New York punk rock band the Ramones will be unveiled on Friday at the park, and will be the fifth, joining statues of Jimi Hendrix, former The Clash legend Joe Strummer, Jack White, and John Lennon.
Formed in 1974, the Ramones were a major influence on the punk rock movement in both the United States and United Kingdom. Recognition of the band’s importance built over the years, and they are now considered one of the all-time greats of rock music. In 2002 the Ramones were ranked the second-greatest band of all time by Spin magazine, trailing only the Beatles. In 2002, the original four members and Marky Ramone, were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and in 2011, the group was awarded a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
The park, located in Zagreb’s city centre (Pavla Hatza St), was the brainchild of music lover Dražen Goreta, who wants the Rock n’ Roll themed park to help promote Zagreb’s tourism and culture offerings.
