The ‘sweetest’ event in Istria set to take place again

The Sweet Istria (Slatka Istra) festival is held every year on the eve of Assumption Day, on August 14th, in the centre of the Istrian village of Vižinada.
After a two-year break, this year will be the 24th anniversary of the event which celebrates the sweet Istrian culinary tradition and which brings you its scents and flavours and takes you back to ancient times when Istrian craftsmen and women prepared traditional Istrian sweets.
The event validates the past and its customs, the landscape and its people. This event are attending housewives and househusbands preparing sweets according to old recipes, like fritule, kroštule, cukerančić, paštine, pandešpanj, pinca, breskvice, bucolaj and povetice, as well as a special homemade selection of cakes called ‘istarske užance’.
They will be presented at an exhibition in the school hall, where they will be evaluated by an expert jury, and the best ones will be awarded.
In addition to the exhibition, an excellent entertainment program has been prepared as well as a top eno-gastro offer, a football match, tastings of wine, oil and local products from the Vižinada area, a presentation of traditional Istrian cake in Maraston House and, at the end of the evening, a concert by the Replay Band and Vigor Group.
The festival continues in Vižinada on the second day, August 15, with the celebration of the traditional folk festival of St. Mary Vela. Concerts by BRASS BAND ZT Vižinada – Banda d’ottoni Visinada and brass band KUD “Istarski želježničar” Roč at 8 p.m., while at 9 p.m. the Malvazija band and Mambo kings will entertain.
The event, which starts at 6pm is, free.
