Things You Need to Know Before Dating a Croatian Guy

Both men and women are always figuring out new ways to understand the opposite sex. But the bottom line always seems to be that women are known to be complicated and boys are said to be simple. For Croatian boys some things count as usual and normal, but there are always exceptions. Meeting a Croatian guy often means you´ve hit the jackpot, but sometimes, well, there´s plenty more fish in the Adriatic Sea!

THEY LOVE FOOTBALL

First thing to do, and I am serious, is finding out his favourite club. If he says there are good players in both of the biggest clubs – you’ve hit the jackpot. But if that doesn’t happen, know this – the biggest difference is between Dinamo (Zagreb) and Hajduk (Split). Do not, I repeat, do not mix these never, ever. Once you learn this, everything is fine. When he´s watching the game, and every game is the game, then be there for him or don’t be there at all. You will be the beer bringer and snacks giver and after that you can walk away. But not too far, he might need something again. So you just might stay, but then remember to support all of his lines. Of course, I am now referring to all of you rare football non-lovers, because in Croatia, football is life.

THEY LIKE THEIR BEER COLD AND GIRLS WITHOUT BEER

This is an optional advice. Not for the cold beer, that is a must. But usually, it is not appreciated if girls drink beer. Even smoking isn’t as terrifying as beer drinking. Stranger things. At least for some. It would be nice, if you are a beer lover, to have a “plan b” drink. So the best thing to do is to go to a local beer pub and see for yourself. You won’t make a big mistake, after all you are here to find out what all the (beer) fuss is about.

THEY LOVE THEIR CAR

Never underestimate the power of his car. Even if old and slow, it is the fastest car ever and he did the best job fixing it. And it is a beautiful car. And tidy. I am serious about the last one, they really take care of it and wash it (or wash him since the car is more than an “it”) often. On the other hand they don’t take care of their rooms as much, but after all, car is their friend.

THEY TAKE CARE OF THEIR GIRL

Just like their car, their girl is a valuable thing. If you two are serious enough for you to be compared with his car. But once you are, you will be like the apple of his eye. Always near him, always together, always happy, always when he wants it. After all, he should have some time for himself and his friends right?

THEY LIKE IT WHEN GIRLS TAKE INITIATIVE

It doesn’t happen very often that Croatian girls approach guys first. So if you are a foreigner, and take initiative, you already have two points! They like relaxed and open minded girls. You don’t have to say much, or even say anything, you’ll win them over just like that. Because, I repeat, they don’t experience it often.

THEY LIKE BEING DOMINANT

Once you’ve approached them, they like to take control. Some more, some less, but they all like it. Except when you have to decide where to go and what to do and whether to go out at all. And when you decide, and make the wrong choice, they will not forget. So don’t make bad decisions. Because the next time you’ll probably stay at home considering the last time wasn’t really fun.

THEY LIKE THEIR GIRLS PRETTY

Some boys ( younger ones) like their girls with full make-up. But the older guys come to their senses and see it’s not going to work that way. But still, just like everywhere, looks are the first thing to be noticed and of course they do. They like you pretty and like it when you show it. But don’t show too much. You should show a lot when you two are alone, but don’t show too much to others.

SHOW SOME CHARACTER AND BE AMUSING

Not only should you be pretty, you should be a challenge. Not really too hard to get, but hard enough. Show him some of your interests and opinions, don’t just “be”. You should also be able to talk about something. And not only football. Make him laugh. Be funny and be natural. Be yourself.

Knowing these things, you might not win every one of them over, but you’ll sure win someone! Everything else depends on you and the particular guy you wish to attract…
