Croatian singer Marko Perković Thompson has made history, selling over 130,000 tickets for his upcoming concert at Zagreb’s Hippodrome in just six hours.
Thompson will perform on July 5th at the Zagreb Hippodrome.
The total number of sold tickets has now reportedly reached 227,600, surpassing the current world record.
The previous record was held by Italian superstar Vasco Rossi, who sold 225,173 tickets for his 2017 concert in Modena, daily Večernji list writes.
While it was expected that Thompson’s concert would generate huge interest, even his closest team was shocked by the speed of sales.
After the record sales and sold-out concert, Thompson’s management took to Facebook and said that due to the huge demand a second concert was in the works.
“We are ready for a second concert at the Zagreb Hippodrome – we are waiting for the City’s response.
Due to the extremely high interest and numerous inquiries from those who were unable to secure a ticket for Marko Perković Thompson’s concert on July 5th at the Zagreb Hippodrome, the management is ready to organise an additional concert on July 6th.
We are currently in contact with the relevant city services and are awaiting their official confirmation. As soon as we receive a final response, all information will be published on our official website in a timely manner. Thank you all for your tremendous support and interest,” they wrote.
Longtime collaborator Nenad Ninčević expressed his amazement at the numbers:
“I expected 30,000 to 40,000 tickets to go quickly, but to pass 200,000 on the first day—that’s unbelievable. This is the biggest event in Croatian music history. I wish Marko all the best—he’s a dream collaborator.”
Ninčević also mentioned that they have been working on new music for 16 months, with eight more songs still in preparation.
Music producer Branimir Mihaljević, who is working on the concert production, promised an unforgettable show:
“Even from the promo video, you can see what to expect. This concert will be on the level of The Rolling Stones and Metallica, who have performed at the same venue.”
