Three-time Grand Slam winner to headline Croatia Open in Umag

The Plava Laguna Croatia Open ATP tournament in Umag will feature a world-renowned tennis player who has won three Grand Slam singles titles.

Stan Wawrinka, a Swiss player who won the Umag tournament in 2006, will return to the tournament where he achieved his first major tournament victory.

“I am so happy to announce that I will be back in Umag after winning my first ATP title there. It is a big pleasure to be back and I hopefully I will see you will there to support me,” Wawrinka said.

He has won a total of 16 titles, including the Australian Open, Roland Garros, and US Open. Wawrinka is known for his distinctive one-handed backhand and is one of the few players to challenge the ‘big three’ of Djokovic, Nadal, and Federer in their prime.

“We are thrilled to announce that Stan will be returning to Umag after all these years, and having won two Top 10 matches recently he has proven he is back in shape, so spectators at Stella Maris are in for a spectacle,” says Tomislav Poljak, director of the Plava Laguna Croatia Open Umag tournament.

The Plava Laguna Croatia Open Umag tournament, organized by the tourism company Plava Laguna, will take place from 24-30 July 2023.
