The best Croatian footballers in the last 25 years have been selected in a big poll by leading Croatian website Večernji list as part of their 25 year celebrations.
We’ve selected the top 25 Croatian footballers from that period, and you, through your votes, determined who the best one is. It wasn’t an easy decision because the competition was fierce, leading to some very deserving footballers being left off the list, Večernji list said in their intro.
Captain of the national team, Luka Modrić, was a significant favourite from the start of the voting and convincingly won with 2660 votes.
Behind him was the best Croatian goal scorer in history, Davor Šuker (298 votes), while in the third place was another current international, Ivan Perišić, who received 237 votes.
Robert Prosinečki and Zvonimir Boban collected 177 votes each, sharing the fourth position.
Rounding up the top 5 were Mario Mandžukić and Ivan Rakitić (138 votes), while sixth-placed Alen Bokšić received 112 votes.
Other players who were on the list included Mateo Kovačić, Marcelo Brozović, Joško Gvardiol, Robert Jarni and Eduardo da Silva.
