January 19, 2021 – A top-quality Croatian wine will be served during the inauguration of the president of the United States on Wednesday in Washington.
The wine in question is a red wine from Benmosche Family Winery which is situated on the slopes of the Pelješac peninsula in southern Dalmatia.
“We first heard about it when the local media broke the news and then we got information from our clients in the United States that the wine got where it got,” Boris Mrgudić, director of the Benmosche Family Winery, told Reuters.
Mrgudić, whose family has been involved in winemaking for 12 generations, said he did not have the exact information as to which lunch or dinner the wine will be served at Wednesday’s Inauguration Day, when Joe Biden will be sworn in as president.
“This news will certainly contribute to promotion of the Croatian wines which is very important, as Croatia is a small wine producer and still not very competitive on the global markets,” Mrgudić said.
The Mrgudic family went into business with late U.S. insurance executive Robert Benmosche and today the Benmosche Family Winery produces around 5,000 bottles of Zinfandel and Dingač a year.
