Authorities in the popular Croatian city of Split have placed signs to inform visitors about the code of conduct.
This is a response to the large number of tourists who have arrived in the city, and whose behaviour sometimes makes parts of Split look like an open-air party and has left a lot to be desired, Dnevnik.hr reported.
“On behalf of all our guests and visitors, we want them to feel comfortable and welcome in Split, while respecting the rules that enable our fellow citizens to live undisturbed in the city centre,” Grad Split posted on their official page.
The signs mention that consuming alcohol in public is prohibited, that wearing bikinis or being shirtless is only allowed on the beach, that visitors should be mindful not to be too loud, and that they should use toilets instead of the city walls.
Visitors are also warned about fines of up to 300 euros.
The Split City Council, following media reports about improper behaviour of tourists in public places, decided to impose fines during the tourist season.
According to the decision, a fine of 300 euros is imposed for: consuming alcohol in public spaces, urinating in public spaces, sleeping in parks on lawns, squares, and other public areas; consuming food or drinks in public spaces, staying in hospitality establishments after closing hours.
A fine of 300 euros is also imposed for: climbing and sitting on monuments and memorial plaques, entering, climbing, and/or bathing in fountains, as well as offering and arranging taxi services without prior agreement.
A fine of 150 euros will be imposed for vomiting in public spaces, as well as for construction and installation work between 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM, and between 10:00 PM and 7:00 AM to prevent noise.
