Ivana and Josipa Jurković have qualified for women’s pairs A final at the 2022 World Rowing Championships in Racice, Czech Republic.
The twins, who are from Vela Luka on the island of Korčula, have become the first female crew to reach the final at a World Rowing Championships in a Olympic discipline.
Before Ivana and Josipa Jurković, the only Croatian woman who rowed in the A finals of the World Championships was Mirna Rajle Brođanac in the light single, which is a non-Olympic discipline.
In the semi-final, the Jurković sisters finished third with a time of 7:16.61 to secure their place in the final.
Ivana and Josipa led the fight with the crew of the Czech Republic during the entire race, and at 1,500 meters they made a small lead of one hundredth of a second, which they managed to maintain at the very finish, and they reached the finish line with a 3-second advantage.
First place was taken by the Romanian crew with a time of 7:11.04, while the Dutch crew finished second with a time of 7:12.75.
“I have no idea what to say, emotions are overwhelming us! We dedicate the entry to the final to the coach who had nerves throughout the season. I am very proud of my sister Josip, who after only half a year since her injury is in the final of the World Senior Championship,” said Ivana Jurković.
The final is scheduled for Saturday, September 24 at 1:34 p.m.
