Two cities in Croatia among Europe’s Most Popular Destinations

Bali is currently the number one most popular destination in the world, whilst two cites in Croatia are among the most popular in Europe, this is according to TripAdvisor’s Travellers’ Choice Awards.

The list shows which places travellers are missing the most and how many they want to visit those places when travel is resumed.

Bali was voted the most popular destination in the world, followed by London, Dubai, Rome and Paris.

Whilst no Croatian cities make the world list, two were included on the list of the most popular destinations in Europe. In 29th place was Split and Dubrovnik claimed 30th spot.

“There is an abundance of restaurants and wine cellars. Sites such as Diocletian’s Palace and Mausoleum, the Grgur Ninski Statue and the Cathedral and Bell Tower of St Domnius justify its position as a UNESCO-designated World Heritage Site. The city’s coves offer several lovely beaches, including central Bacvice. Ferries link Split to Dalmatian summer resorts,” TripAdvisor said.

Split

The list of the most popular destinations reveals where travellers dared to go in 2020, as well as which places they dreamed of while the pandemic kept them trapped at home.

Dubrovnik

The world’s ‘trending’ destination was Cabo San Lucas in Mexico and Martinique in the Caribbean was the number one ‘emerging’ destination in the world.

Croatia featured again in the most popular National Parks list coming in at 21st place.

“The bubbling, turquoise crystalline pools of Plitvice Lakes National Park comprise one of Croatia’s most popular tourist destinations. Just a two-hour drive from Zagreb, the national park offers 50 acres of forest and lake. In winter, it’s a wonderland of frozen waterfalls. In summer, the park is lush with greenery. Wooden walkways and hiking trails traverse the porous karst limestone. This World Heritage Site is a veritable wildlife haven, home to everything from birds to boars and even bears,” TripAdvisor writes.
