Two hit Croatian films now streaming on Netflix

ZAGREB, 27 August 2023 – Two hit Croatian films have this month started streaming on Netflix.
Croatian Netflix users can now watch the children’s feature film “Dnevnik Pauline P.“ (Diary of Paulina P.) directed by Neven Hitrec, which is currently the most-watched among local users, and the comedy “Nosila je rubac črleni” (She Wore a Red Scarf) by Goran Dukić, on the popular platform, the Croatian Audiovisual Center said.
“Dnevnik Pauline P.” has been available on Netflix since August 18th and hasn’t budged from the top ten most-watched list in Croatia since then. It’s currently sitting at number one.
This film, produced by Jaka Productions, is based on the eponymous children’s novel by Sanja Polak, also a mandatory read for third graders. It follows the story of Paulina P., a self-assured and witty 3rd grade student, who’s an individual that always speaks her mind and finds solutions. Her life is filled with school and family events, along with witty critiques of reality.
Katja Matković plays the titular role of Paulina P., with child roles portrayed by Aria Dunda, Ramona Ivanda, Tom Rushaidat, Jakov Švarc, and Darin Pavišić. Other major roles are played by Igor Kovač, Judita Franković Brdar, and Borko Perić.
The film also features Iskra Jirsak, Ksenija Marinković, Vinko Kraljević, Dražen Kühn, Slavica Knežević, Nikša Butijer, Areta Ćurković, Anđelko Petric, Ljiljana Bogojević, Luka Petrušić, Draško Zidar, Alen Šalinović, Dušan Gojić, and Helena Buljan.
The film’s producer is Jure Bušić (Jaka Productions), with executive producer Hrvoje Habeković, and distribution by Jučer d.o.o. This spring, the film was in regular cinema distribution in Croatia and was viewed by a total of over 86,000 viewers. It received a recommendation from the Ministry of Science and Education for screening in elementary schools.
Among the new titles available for streaming, Netflix also features the comedy “Nosila je rubac črleni” (She Wore a Red Scarf), directed by Goran Dukić and written by Sandra Antolić. This is the first feature-length film in the Kajkavian dialect in half a century.
“Nosila je rubac črleni” is a comedy with all-knowing Jesus Christ, cunning godmother Anka, and chatty pig Beba as the main protagonists.
The lively atmosphere is enhanced by the music of Cinkuš and Marko First, as well as songs written by screenwriter Sandra Antolić.
The leading roles are played by Nataša Dorčić as godmother Anka and Tesa Litvan as Ančica and pig Beba. Numerous well-known Croatian actors also make appearances: Areta Ćurković, Dora Polić, Sunčana Zelenika, Jadranka Đokić, Pjer Meničanin, Ljubo Zečević (Golden Arena for Best Supporting Actor), Krešimir Mikić, Ljubomir, Jan Kerekeš, and others.
Goran Navojec lent his voice to the character Roki the boar, while Janko Popović Volarić played the role of narrator, Jesus Christ.
The producer is Nina Petrović (Švenk d.o.o), and the film was made in co-production with Antitalent from Croatia and Vertigo Visual from North Macedonia. In 2022, the film ranked among the top five most-watched domestic titles in cinemas, with 18,052 viewers.
