UEFA Champions League: Dinamo Zagreb 1:1 Ferencvaros

ZAGREB, 6 August 2019 – Croatian champions Dinamo Zagreb have drawn the first leg of their 2019–20 UEFA Champions League third qualifying round tie against Hungarian club Ferencvaros in Zagreb.

Dinamo and Ferencvaros drew 1:1 at Maksimir stadium tonight and will head into the return leg in Hungary next week with the tie wide open.

Dani Olmo was in great form tonight for Dinamo Zagreb and after a bomb which was saved by the Ferencvaros keeper in the fourth minute, the Spanish youth international would find the back of the net three minutes later with a piece of solo brilliance.

After work from Orsic and Ademi in the middle of the park, Orsic found Olmo with a backheel just outside the box. Olmo then beat one man before beating another with a nutmeg before finishing past the Ferencvaros keeper to send the 15,000-strong Maksimir crowd wild.

After the early action, the visitors would settle down and enjoy more possession in the first spell than the hosts but it would be Dinamo who would come closest to scoring again with two half-chances before the break.

Ferencvaros sought an equaliser early in the second spell, forcing Dinamo to defend for the opening ten minutes of the half and they would finally level in the 59th minute when David Siger headed home a cross.

Dinamo had a huge chance to take the lead again two minutes later when a Leovac cross from the right found Hajrovic, but his shot would rattle the crossbar.

Dinamo continued to press for a winner and come close through substitute Majer, Gavranovic and Olmo but were unable to find a winner. The return leg will be played at Groupama Arena in Budapest on Tuesday 13 August.
