RIJEKA, 8 August, 2019 – NK Rijeka has beaten Scottish club Aberdeen in the third qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League at Rujevica stadium in Rijeka on Thursday night.
Two goals in the second half has given Igor Biscan’s side a nice cushion heading into the second leg of the tie.
It took a half an hour before the hosts would get into the game as Aberdeen enjoyed much of the early possession and when they did create something it almost led to a goal.
First it was Tomecak with a shot which was blocked. From the resulting corner, Lepinjica had his effort saved and when the ball fell to Zuparic he could only watch his shot sail wide.
Eight minutes later and Rijeka looked threatening again when Tomecak was put through in a dangerous position but he would be ruled offside.
There would be more chances in the half and both sides went into the break goalless.
Rijeka would take the lead in the 62nd minute when they were awarded a penalty. Colak calmly converted from the spot.
Rijeka doubled their lead in the 88th minute when Robert Muric’s shot from 17 metres out found the bottom right corner of the Aberdeen net.
The return leg will be played next Thursday in Aberdeen.
