Croatia has beaten France at the United Cup tennis tournament in Australia and booked a place in the City Finals.

Croatia, who swept Argentina 5-0 in the opening Group F match, took an unassailable 3-1 lead against France today to win the match and top their group.

On the opening day of the match on Monday, Donna Vekić and Borna Ćorić gave Croatia a 2-0 lead with wins over Alize Cornet and Arthur Rinderknech respectively.

Vekić would beat Cornet 6-4, 6-3, whilst Ćorić took care of Rinderknech in two tie-breakers 7-6(1), 7-6(2).

Today, France pulled a game back when Caroline Garcia beat Petra Martić 7-6, 6-4.

Borna Gojo then took to the court and made it 3-1 for Croatia when he beat Adrian Mannarino 7-6, 3-6, 7-6.

Croatia now progress to the City Final in Perth. If they win that they will advance to the semi-finals. Of the three losing teams in the City Finals, one with the best record up to that point becomes the fourth semifinalist.

The semi-finals will be played in Sydney on January 6 and 7 with the final on January 8.

The mixed men’s and women’s tournament is organised by the ATP and WTA and is taking place in Brisbane, Perth and Sydney.
