United Cup: Croatia sweeps Argentina 5-0 in Perth

Croatia has beaten Argentina in their first match at the United Cup tennis tournament in Australia.
Croatia has swept Argentina 5-0 in the opening Group F match at the inaugural tournament in Perth.
On the opening day of the match, Donna Vekić and Borna Ćorić gave Croatia a 2-0 lead with wins over Maria Lourdes Carle and Francisco Cerundolo respectively.
On Sunday, Petra Martić and Borna Gojo won their respective matches to extend the lead to 4-0.
Martić beat Nadia Podoroska 6-2, 4-6, 6-1, before Gojo won his match against Federico Coria 7-6 (5), 6-4.
Gojo then team up with Tara Wurth to complete a clean 5-0 sweep for Croatia as they beat Podoroska and Tomas Martin Etcheverry 1-6, 6-4, 10-4.
The mixed men’s and women’s tournament is organised by the ATP and WTA and is taking place in Brisbane, Perth and Sydney until 8 January.
Croatia will play against France on January 2 and 3 with the winner going into the city final. The winner’s of the each city group then head to the final four which will be played in Sydney on January 6 and 7. In addition to the three city winners, the best national team from the three city finalists, based on their performance in the three matches played, will participate in the final tournament.
