RIJEKA, 3 March 2019 – Over 10,500 people took to the streets of Rijeka on Sunday for what is one of Europe’s biggest carnival parades.
After six weeks of carnival entertainment, concerts and charity events, the 2019 Rijeka Carnival reached its climax on Sunday with the traditional international carnival parade on Rijeka’s Korzo.
There was a true festive atmosphere on Sunday as over 100 carnival groups and 67 floats passed through the city centre.
This year’s carnival parade, which was the 36th edition, included groups from all parts of Croatia and also from around Europe. In the large crowd was a number of dignitaries, including Croatian president Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic, foreign ambassadors to Croatia, as well as other diplomats and officials from Rijeka’s twin cities.
The children’s parade took place two weekends ago.
The International Carnival parade has been a tradition in the city since 1982 and has been included to the list of the 500 most important events in Europe.
