ZAGREB, 14 May (Hina) – Visitors from throughout Croatia converged on the old terminal of Franjo Tuđman Airport in Velika Gorica on Saturday to watch an airshow featuring the Croatian Air Force (HRZ) acrobatic display team Wings of Storm and a joint flight of old MiG and new Rafale fighter planes.
“The aim of this airshow is to promote the HRZ, to show our modern technology and to attract young people to the HRZ,” said Major Antonija Trupinić, a helicopter pilot and HRZ public relations officer.
The show, third in a row, was organised by the City of Velika Gorica and Zagreb International Airport with the support of the Ministry of Defence and under the auspices of the government.
The HRZ also showcased the Zlin plane, which is used for training young pilots and the American Bell 206 JetRanger multi-purpose helicopter, and demonstrated the joint operation of Black Hawk and Kiowa Warrior helicopters in rescuing pilots from a hostile environment.
A panel discussion on “How to become a military pilot?” was held, with HRZ pilots and aeronautics cadets sharing their experiences with the aim of attracting young people to the service.
Given that the Rafale aicraft recently arrived from France, the MiGs will soon be decommissioned.
“The MiGs secured our victory in the (1991-1995) Homeland War and Croatian independence, and the Rafales guarantee us a successful future,” said Colonel BariŠić, an MiG-21 pilot.
