Over 1,000 people have turned out to celebrate the opening and blessing of a brand new chapel on Australia’s Gold Coast.
A traditional Croatian mass service, followed by a lunch celebration to mark the opening of the new St. Leopold Chapel was held on the Gold Coast on Saturday. More than $800,000 was raised by generous donations to build the new place of worship for the Croatian community.
Local Bishops and Priests were joined by Priests from Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina for the special two-hour service.
The crowd then made their way to the Gold Coast Croatian Sports Centre for a feast and folk dancing performances.
“Everything is on the menu, ćevapi, ražnjići, salads, Croatian pita,” cook Mladen Simic told 9 News Gold Coast. There were also ‘lots and lots’ of krofne made.
