Croatia won bronze after beating Norway 31:24 in the TAURON Arena in Krakow in the bronze medal match on Sunday. The team arrived back on Monday at 12:30 and soon made their way to Ban Jelačić square for an official welcome. Thousands packed out Zagreb’s main square to welcome home the team.
It has been a roller-coaster tournament for the Croatians, who came back from the dead with a miracle 14-point victory over the hosts Poland to get through to the semi-finals. Croatia lost to Spain in the semi-final but came back to finish the tournament on a high.
Croatia have claimed a direct berth at the World Championship 2017 in France with their 3rd place finish. It was the fifth time in four years that Croatia were playing for bronze at a major handball tournament.
