Croatia has been hit by strong bura winds, causing significant disruptions across the coast.

Winds reaching speeds of up to an incredible 190 km/h near the Velebit Channel have led to the suspension of numerous ferry lines.

The strong gusts created challenges at sea, with dramatic scenes captured in Supetar’s ferry port on the island of Brač.

In one incident, Jadrolinija’s Marjan ferry battled powerful waves and extreme conditions, barely managing to dock safely.

Jadrolinija shared a video on Instagram of the ferry navigating its way into port. Although the footage was sped up, viewers could clearly see the challenging conditions and the captain’s skilful handling of the vessel in the turbulent sea.

Road traffic was also severely affected. The A1 motorway was closed between Sveti Rok and Posedarje, and the Omiš bypass was shut to all vehicles due to the dangerous wind conditions.

On Monday, Croatia’s meteorological service issued red and orange alerts for the regions of Istria, Kvarner, and Dalmatia, warning residents of the extreme weather.
