ZAGREB, 13 September 2024 – As Cyclone Boris made its presence felt across Croatia, the first snowfall has arrived and its still technically summer.
This morning brought a noticeable drop in temperature across Croatia compared to previous days, with a moderate to strong bura wind making the cold feel even more intense.
By 9 a.m., temperatures across Istria ranged from 6°C in Ćićarija to 15°C in the far southern parts of the peninsula. In Zagreb, temperatures were a winter-like 9°C.
In the mountainous regions, the cold was even more pronounced.
According to live webcam footage from livecamcroatia.com, snow was already falling on Platak this morning, as reported by Istramet.
Throughout the morning, snowfall is expected to continue in Platak, and the highest parts of Radeševo may even see a white covering.
In Zavižan, the situation is similar, with air temperatures hovering around 0.1°C. However, according to the DHMZ webcam, snow has yet to fall in the area.
Meanwhile, the southern Adriatic is bracing for heavy rain and occasional thunderstorms on Friday. Strong bura winds will dominate most of the region, except for the far south, where a south-westerly wind will prevail, eventually shifting to a westerly direction by the end of the day.
Over the coming days, the weather is expected to gradually calm, although temperatures will remain unusually low for this time of year.
After a scorching summer, the winter conditions across the country wont please those on holiday.
