ZAGREB, 20 November 2021 – A massive protest against Covid passes and epidemiological measures is being held today in the Croatian capital Zagreb.
Protesters gathered at 3 pm in two locations in the centre of Zagreb. The first group met at Trg Francuske Republike whilst others gathered at Trg žrtava fašizma before both groups marched towards the main square Trg Bana Jelačića.
Bus loads of protestors arrived in Zagreb during the day from all over the country.
Jutarnji list reported that as many as 10 buses came from Split, five buses from Zadar, four each from Šibenik, Rijeka, Osijek and Istria, two each from Vinkovci and Varaždin, and one each from Bjelovar and Dubrovnik.
Since November 15, proof of vaccination, recovery from Covid or a negative test was made mandatory for all employees of state and public services, as well as for citizens who will use their services and come to their premises.
Covid passes were already mandatory in the health and social care system.
Croatia’s National Civil Protection Headquarters announced also this month that if the number of cases continued to grow, Covid passes could be introduced at cafes, restaurants, gyms, recreational and indoor fitness centres and shopping malls.
A number of smaller protests had been held around the country since Covid passes were introduced.
“There is no more time to wait, this is the moment when everyone has to pick a side, step forward, engage and do whatever they can. We will not agree to blackmail, coercion, discrimination and segregation, we will not agree to this unprecedented violation of human freedom. We think of our children, what a world we will leave them,” said Atma.
