Last night, Niagara Falls in USA and Canada illuminated in the colours of the Croatian flag to mark Croatian Statehood Day.
Croatia is marking Statehood Day for the 32nd time on Tuesday, 30 May, since declaring independence from Yugoslavia and on Monday night, a beautiful illumination of Niagara Falls in red, white and blue took place at 10 pm local time on the Canadian side.
“The illuminated display, organized by the Croatian Consulate General in Mississauga in commemoration of the Croatian Statehood Day, serves as a powerful symbol of the strong ties between Croatia and Canada as well as Croatian identity in Ontario and Canada. Consul General Ante Jović was proud to turn on the illumination at the control tower in the company of Niagara Parks Chair April Jeffs. To all Croatians in Canada, USA, and around the world we wish a happy Croatian Statehood Day,” the Croatian Consulate General in Mississauga said.
The Consulate General in New York also organised the illumination of Niagara Falls in USA in colours of the Croatian flag.
Niagara Falls is illuminated by several hundred LED lights, which light up at dusk, every night of the year. Throughout the year, the waterfalls are especially illuminated on the occasion of significant occasions and holidays and as a sign of support to numerous organisations and associations.
“On Monday, May 29 from 10:15 to 10:30 p.m., Niagara Falls was illuminated in red, white and blue to commemorate Croatian Statehood Day for the third year in a row. The Consulate General of the Republic of Croatia in New York, first initiated the project of lighting of the Falls in May 2021. Seeing the Croatian colors illuminating the Falls brings about such Croatian pride. We’re happy to keep this tradition alive,” Consulate General in New York said.
