Although it is still not officially winter, winter-like conditions have tightened its grip around the Croatian coastal city of Split.
Split and its neighbouring areas experienced a significant drop in temperatures, accompanied by snowfall on Monday morning.
The snowfall has become more pronounced in the immediate hinterland, particularly behind Kozjak and the western part of Mosor.
Notable snowfall have been reported in Vučevice, Bročanac, and Konjsko, with Dugopolje, which is around 20 km from Split, currently experiencing snowfall, daily 24sata reported.
This abrupt change in weather has led to challenging road conditions, affecting travel and prompting warnings from authorities.
Road Conditions on A1 Highway
The A1 highway between Prgomet and Bisko junctions is affected by icy rain and snow, leading to a reduced speed limit of 40 kilometres per hour. Croatian Automobile Club (HAK) urges motorists to adhere to traffic signs for their safety.
Authorities emphasise the mandatory use of winter equipment when winter conditions prevail on the roads. This includes situations where the road is covered with snow or when there is black ice. Failure to comply with these regulations, combined with snow and sub-zero temperatures, has resulted in chaotic traffic situations on Croatian roads.

The State Hydrometeorological Institute (DHMZ) has issued a yellow warning for parts of the country due to stormy south winds, with snowfall expected in mountainous regions.
