The Croatian capital is stepping into a greener future with its first electric bus, unveiled by the city’s famous Olympic gold medallist and Mayor.

The first ZET electric bus, soon to hit the streets of Zagreb, was tested by celebrated Olympic gold medallist Martin Sinković, and Mayor Tomislav Tomašević.

“This electric bus is like the first swallow in ZET’s future fleet, marking the start of a rapid decarbonisation phase where we’ll replace fossil fuel vehicles with electric ones. Our goal is to fully electrify public transport within the next 10 years, improving air quality and keeping noise levels low,” said Tomislav Tomašević, Mayor of Zagreb.

Sinković was equally impressed, particularly by the bus’s low noise levels.

“I invite all citizens to try out the electric bus, and for those who, like me, have a driving licence, I encourage you to join the great team of ZET drivers who serve the public every day,” said Martin Sinković.

The first electric bus will operate on route 113, Ljubljanica-Jarun, which runs around Lake Jarun at weekends.

This bus can carry 68 passengers and is powered by a 210 kWh electric motor, with batteries offering a range of 310 kilometres. The vehicle is valued at €450,000, excluding VAT.

A second electric bus is expected in April, with two more arriving in the summer. Plans are in place to acquire around 60 additional electric buses next year, with funding anticipated from EU sources.

A public call for bus driver vacancies remains open permanently. Applications can be submitted to ZET’s Human Resources Department at Ozaljska 105.
