The Dalmatian island of Hvar has been nominated for the European Best Destination 2018 title.
Every year leading travel portal European Best Destinations organises the election of the best destination in Europe based on online voting from travellers.
This year the island of Hvar is one of 20 destinations on the shortlist for the title.
Voting opened today on 18 January 2018 and will be open until 8 February 2018.
Hvar is up against the likes of Paris, Lisbon, London and Budapest.
Over the last decade, Hvar has become one of the most popular Croatian islands. Located between the islands of Brač, Vis and Korčula, Hvar is the 4th most populated of the Croatian islands and has a rich, long tradition and is home to a number of UNESCO heritage sites. It also has the reputation for being the sunniest island in Europe.
In 2016 the Croatian city of Zadar beat off the likes of Paris, London and Rome to win the title of ‘European Best Destination 2016′, whilst Zagreb was the winner of the ‘Best Christmas Market’ the last three years in a row.
With voting, one person is able to vote once every 7 days, so 3 times in total.
