Over the past few years a number have been spotted along the Croatian coast.

Today, the Mljet National Park received multiple reports of a whale sighting in the Mljet Channel.

“On Monday, June 10, 2024, we received several reports of a whale sighting in the Mljet Channel between Polača and Trstenik. Currently, we do not have more information or knowledge about the species. We kindly ask that you do not approach it with boats and report the location and time of any sightings to [email protected].

Whale sightings are not uncommon in the Adriatic Sea.

Last year, in front of Komiža on the island of Vis, two groups of three to five whales were captured on film

The whales were finback whales, which are are the second-largest species on Earth after the blue whale.

Recently, an international team of scientists from Croatia and Italy started studying Cuvier’s beaked whales in this region.

Sperm whales where also spotted near Korčula Island last summer.
