30 March 2019 – Earlier this week, a group of six women on motorbikes started their journey through the Balkans. They are members of the Women Riders World Relay (WRWR) Action. On Thursday, despite the strong bura wind slowing them down, they arrived in Zadar on the Dalmatian coast.
With members from more than 100 countries around the world, they are proving that bikes and roads are not just made for men and women can ride a bike as good as men are doing. Socialising, meeting new people, enjoying the road on bikes, those are just some things that are gathering all those members.
“I wanted to ignite a global sisterhood of inspirational women to promote courage, adventure, unity and passion for biking from all corners of the world and do something that’s never been done before to this scale. My aim is to WOW the industry into realising the global market for women in Motorsports and to inspire women worldwide. Going into motorcycle stores and seeing a lack of choice, combined with stereotypical pink and being told “there just isn’t the market for women”, highlighted to me just one small element of a much bigger picture around women in Motorsports. I want to show the industry the force behind the market that is so blindly overlooked. I am doing this because women bikers can make this happen,” founder Hayley Bell, states on official site of WRWR.
Jossan Geerdink, a Dutch national who resides in Serbia and is a representative of WRWR for Croatia, Montenegro, Macedonia and Albania, said she was thrilled they are here in Zadar, and they will continue they journey after a short break. Jossan told us that it was 45 years ago when she first visited the Zadar area with her parents.
Members of the Zadar Moto Club Beštije hosted the group in D8 rock cafe where they exchanged experiences about men/women biking, with a lot of laughs and in great company, these women and men prove that the road and bike can be good friends for everybody.
One mysterious object was following them on their journey, in a wooden box they keep a list of the names of members that were caring it on their previous rides. They will proceed that box with a GPS device to the next women group on their bike tour.
Members from Slovenia, Australia, and Austria were really happy they made it to Zadar, because strong wind was creating huge problems on the road this week. On Friday, they headed off to their next destination south and we wish them good road and great weather.
