Women’s Film Festival set to start in Zagreb

One Billion Rising announces the launch of the Women’s Film Festival – House of Women’s Film, a unique event that will present the diverse and strong voices of female directors from Europe.
The festival will begin on November 25, 2023, on the International Day against Violence against Women and will continue throughout the year with monthly screenings and discussions on topics related to women, art, human rights and social justice.
The festival is inspired by the global movement One Billion Rising for Freedom, which aims to end violence against women and girls through art, protest, rebellion and solidarity.
The movement was initiated by V (Eve Ensler), the author of “Vagina’s Monologues”, and has spread to more than 200 countries since 2011. In Croatia and the region, the campaign is coordinated by Rada Borić.
The opening of the festival will be held in Urania – the space of creation (Trg Eugena Kvaternika 3/3, 10000, Zagreb) on November 25, 2023, starting at 8:00 p.m. The opening film is Julien in the Middle, a tense and exciting drama about domestic violence, directed by Xavier Legrand and starring Léa Drucker, Denis Ménochet and Thomas Gioria.
It is the story of Miriam and Antoine, a divorced couple fighting for the custody of their son Julien, who becomes a pawn in their conflict. The film won the Silver Lion for directing at the Venice Film Festival in 2017.
The presentation of the program “One Billion Rising Against Violence Against Women – for Freedom” will take place in the cinema of the Cultural Information Center (KIC) on November 27, 2023 at 7 p.m., where the film “Rising for Freedom” by author Danijela Stanojević will be shown.
The film follows the events that took place on February 11 and 14, 2022, at Cvjetni Trg in Zagreb, and at the Zagreb Dance Center. The author of the film Danijela Stanojević, Rada Borić, Sanja Cesar (CESI) will participate, as well as representatives of women’s associations and artists participating in One Billion Rising.
