World mountain biking elite gather on Croatia’s Kvarner islands

KRK, 21 April 2022 – The first stage of the 4Islands MTB race, which is taking place on Croatia’s Kvarner islands of Krk, Cres, Lošinj and Rab, has ended yesterday.
The first stage on the island of Krk included a 71 kilometre-long and 1750 metre section. It started from Baška on Krk, across the Moon Plateau to Punat, Kras and Vrbnik and then back to Baška to the finish line.
The bikers passed through rocky terrains, uphills, and climbing to the top of the island rewarded them with a beautiful view of the town of Krk.

The winners of the first stage of the 4Islands MTB stage race were the Singer Racing team, Martin Frey and Simon Stiebjahn with a time of 2:49:58 in the men’s category and the Allebike Canyon Northwave team, Lejla Tanović and Stefanie Dohrn in the women’s category with a time of 3:30:41.

In the mixed category the winners were Buff megamo 2 – Hans Becking and Naima Madeleine Diesner with a time of 3:41:55. In the Masters category, the best team was Mondraker Blue Force – Tomi Misser and David Ruano Rimbau with a time of 3:20:22, while in the Grand Masters the fastest were Keindl Sport team – Peter Vesel and Loris Tomat, with a time of 3:28:50.

Today, the second stage moves to the island of Rab. The start is scheduled for 10:45 am from Lopar, via Frug, Kampor, Kalifront and Suha punta to Rab.

4Islands MTB stage race is a five-day stage mountain bike race whose main goal is to promote mountain biking as a recreation, hobby, sport and lifestyle.

This year differs from the previous ones in that the Ironman group bought the Kvarner race and presented the “4Islands MTB race” as part of their Epic series along with the other 7 races.
Thanks to the initiative of the hosts and their pleasant welcome, hard work of the organising team and great cooperation with partners, the synergy of sports and off-season tourism is achieved in Croatia, which is at its peak, and returning competitors have recognised this for several years.
