World’s Wealthiest Croat Dies

Chile’s wealthiest family the Luksic’s, who are also number two on Croatia’s Forbes rich list, are in mourning after the news that Guillermo Luksic (57), who was head of the empire in Chile, has died from lung cancer.
The Chilean-Croatian businessmen was the son of the Luksic empire’s founder Andronico Luksic, who was the richest person in Chile at the time of his death in 2005 with a net worth of 4.2 billion USD according to Forbes magazine. The Luksic family made their wealth in banking, mining and brewing. Guillermo’s grandfather had earlier migrated to Chile from the Adriatic island of Brac in Croatia.
In Croatia they own the Plava Laguna resort and the Adriatic luxury hotels. Luksic’s Croatian operation is run by Davor Luksic Lederer, the 29-year-old grandson of Andronico Luksic.
As of October 2012 the Bloomberg Billionaires Index listed the family empire to be worth an estimated net worth of 19.7 billion, which Guillermo was an heir to.
