Zadar records highest growth in Croatian tourism traffic

On 28 May, the National and University Library in Zagreb hosted the first meeting of the tourism sector, led by the Croatia’s new Minister of Tourism and Sports, Tonči Glavina. 

The meeting brought together representatives from the tourism sector and related industries, especially transportation. 

Also present were representatives from emergency medical services, the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service (HGSS), the Ministry of the Interior (MUP), the State Inspectorate (DIRH), port authorities, airports, the ACI marina group, the Croatian Chamber of Commerce (HGK), professional associations, and others.

During the discussion, it was highlighted that Croatian tourism has achieved impressive results, with a traffic increase of about 11% compared to last year nationwide. 

This year, Croatia has welcomed 3.4 million tourists so far, who have generated 10.4 million overnight stays, approximately 11% more than last year.

Among individual destinations, the city of Zadar recorded the highest increase in tourist overnight stays, with a growth of 24% compared to the same period last year. 

Excluding day visits from cruise ship passengers and other guests, the eVisitor system data shows that Zadar has so far welcomed 160,985 tourists, who have achieved 428,052 overnight stays.

This currently represents the highest growth index in tourist traffic in Croatia. Dubrovnik follows with a nearly 20% increase, then Pula and Medulin with 11%, Zagreb with 7.5%, and Poreč with a 7% increase.

Domestic guests accounted for the largest share of total overnight stays in Zadar (21%), followed by Germans (15%), Poles (9%), and Austrians (7%). Guests from the United Kingdom and Slovenia each accounted for 4%, while those from France and Bosnia and Herzegovina each made up 3%. Tourists from the Netherlands and Hungary each contributed 2% of the total overnight stays.
