The Mayor of Zagreb, Tomislav Tomašević, and the CEO of Končar-Električna vozila, Josip Ninić, signed a contract today for the delivery of 20 new low-floor trams for ZET, the City of Zagreb has said.

“I am proud to sign the contract for an additional 20 trams, alongside the 20 already in production. These will be the first new trams on Zagreb’s tracks in 15 years, with the first ones expected by next spring.

Moreover, Zagreb is one of the few cities where trams are manufactured locally by a domestic producer,” said Mayor Tomašević, congratulating Končar for being the best in the international tender.

“We won’t stop here; by the end of the year, ZET will announce a tender for 40 longer low-floor trams, valued at around €120 million. This represents a total investment of €200 million in new trams, which are essential for enhancing public transport and providing a better and more reliable service that Zagreb residents deserve,” emphasised Mayor Tomašević.

The new low-floor trams will be modern, comfortable to ride, and designed to accommodate people with disabilities and reduced mobility.

“These trams, which have become a symbol of Zagreb and one of the most technically advanced Croatian products, are a prime example of the synergy between the local community and domestic industry, and we will continue to strive for this,” said the Končar heads.
