Zagreb Mayor Milan Bandić has been arrested on Sunday on suspicion of corruption, reports daily Jutarnji list...
Bandić (58), who has been Mayor of Croatia’s capital since 2005, was taken in for questioning with 19 others, including two key members of Zagreb City Council regarding corruption, bribery and organised crime. Bandić’s lawyer Krešimir Krsnik told the media at around 7pm this evening that he was on his way to join his client at police headquarters, but would not confirm if he had been formally arrested. The arrests follow a long-running investigation by Croatia’s Anti-Corruption Unit.
If normal procedure is followed, then the accused should appear before a judge on Monday, who will likely remand them in custody for one month whilst investigations continue.
