ZAGREB, 19 May 2020 – Youth baseball is on the rise in Croatia, especially in the capital Zagreb.
The only team that is not using a proper baseball field for practice is Zagreb Red Sox – the Little League champions in Croatia. The other four junior teams in the country all have their baseball fields at disposal.
The Zagreb-based club is planning to build its own field and has launched a crowdfunding campaign for the first phase – a backstop net.
“At the moment we are using plain meadow by the local school. Some of these kids have been playing baseball for 7 years already. Building a Backstop will allow them to have batting practice without having to run for a missed ball in nettle bush to get the ball. The same goes for pitching practice.”
The Backstop will be 5 meters high and 18 meters wide.
U.S. Ambassador to Croatia, Mr. Robert Kohorst will match ‘dollar for dollar’ for every donation up to HRK 2,000 ($285).
“These kids are tough and don’t even feel the disadvantage. Help to make them safer. Help them hit and throw more balls per practice as they should,” the club said.
