Zagreb Mayor Tomislav Tomašević and his deputies, Danijela Dolenec and Luka Korlaet, have announced a new affordable housing project in Sveta Klara.

They confirmed that at least 1,000 new affordable housing units will be built in the next mandate.

The city is already preparing to start construction on around 300 affordable apartments in Podbrežje.

Additionally, Zagreb has initiated the process of adopting a new Urban Development Plan for Sveta Klara, where about 100 new rental apartments will be built.

“Our housing policy focuses on ensuring fair use of the existing city housing stock while also increasing the number of city-owned apartments. Today, we are announcing the construction of new affordable housing units in Sveta Klara for around 100 families.

Alongside the Podbrežje project, we are also preparing an urban development plan for Borovje, where 600 new apartments will be built. These three projects alone will add 1,000 apartments to the city’s housing stock in the next mandate,” said Mayor Tomašević.

Deputy Mayor Luka Korlaet highlighted Zagreb’s participation in the international EUROPAN 18 competition, where young architects propose solutions for key social infrastructure. “Zagreb is the only Croatian city taking part in this year’s competition,” he said.

For the competition, the city has proposed a site in Sveta Klara, near Sisačka Road, close to the new Sv. Klara kindergarten, which will be completed this spring.

The Sveta Klara housing project continues the city administration’s policy of increasing the municipal housing stock. The goal is to provide more affordable housing for families and influence housing prices in Zagreb.
